Al Foucek, 89, of Lakewood Ranch, FL, formerly of Saylorsburg, PA, died on Apr. 30, 2012. Funeral arrangements by: Palms-Robarts Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Marijke; sons, Ollie & Roger; 4 grandchildren. Al was born in NYC where he graduated from Columbia Univ. and received his B.A. At the start of WWll he worked at Grumman Aviation on Long Island, NY, as an aircraft inspector. In 1943 he enlisted in the Air Force to receive his training as a B24 pilot. He was assigned to the 460th Bomb Group, 760th Bomb Squadron in the 15th Air Force. As a bomber pilot, he was stationed at Spinazzola Air Base in Italy, from where he flew 27 missions, many over the Adriatic Sea. Al served as 1st lieutenant until the end of WWll. Al earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and 4 air medals. After returning to the U.S. he worked for National Airlines as manager of the North East region. In 1952 he started to work for KLM Airlines as station manager at JFK airport and retired in 1987. He moved with his wife, Marijke, to Lakewood Ranch in 2006.
A service will be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery. Donations may be made to Best Friends, Animal Soc. in Kanab, Utah. Guestbook www.palmsrobartsfuneralhome.com.
