Florence A. Kenworthy, 69, of Sarasota, FL, died on Jun. 14, 2012. Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Fri., at the Lido Beach Resort in Sarasota, FL.
Florence A. "Winkie" Kenworthy passed away at Tidwell Hospice House after losing her long battle with cancer. She was born in Petersburg, VA, where she spent the early years before moving to Gainesville, FL. After graduation from Gainesville High School, she returned to the Washington, DC area, went to Strayers Business College and became the executive secretary to the President of Prudential Savings and Loan Co. In 1966, she married Edwin Georgie, and they moved to Sarasota in 1972, where they raised their two children. Although divorced they have remained good friends and stayed in the area with their children and grandchildren. Winkie loved the finer things in life, was a loyal compassionate friend, was the ultimate hostess, was fun and loved life, but her priority was her family. She was well-traveled and enjoyed gardening, the UF Gators, animals, shopping, casinos and Christmas. She was predeceased by her parents Art and Charlotte Bowis. Winkie is survived by her daughter Gretchen Speranza (Noel), son, Stephen Georgie (Erin), her brother, Hank Bowis and eight grandchildren Tori, Alex, Ridge, Taz, Kiersten, Kailey, Emily and Natalie. A memorial service will be held at the Lido Beach Resort, 700 Ben Franklin Drive, Sarasota, FL 34236 on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 3:00 PM, with a celebration of her life immediately following. Resort attire. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Tidwell Hospice, the Humane Society or the .
