Fred Mintz, 93, of Sarasota FL, formerly of Burbank CA and Chevy Chase MD, died on June 27, 2012. Fred was born June 30, 1918 in New York, to Sam and Dora Mintz. He began college at the age of 15 and received bachelor and master degrees from George Washington University. An acoustical engineer, he worked for the Navy Department, Lockheed Aircraft, and EPA.
Fred was an avid photographer and loved language, music, and other performing arts. In retirement, Fred and his second wife, Elaine, traveled extensively. He was a member of Temple Sinai in Sarasota, where he sang in the choir.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Nathan, and his sisters Frances and Dorothy. Fred was happily married for 30 years to the late Shirley Pomerantz (mother of his children). He also was happily remarried for 36 years to Elaine Prensky. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Sarasota; daughter Susan Super and her husband Randy of Anchorage AK; son Robert Mintz and his wife Judith of Anchorage AK; grandson Daniel Mintz and his wife Margie of Los Angeles CA; grandson Michael Mintz of Mountain View CA; step-daughter, Susan Prensky of Brooklyn NY; step-son Neal Prensky and his wife Thelma of Germantown MD; and brother Phil Mintz and his wife Selma of San Antonio TX.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Palms Memorial Park in Sarasota. Arrangements by Toale Brothers Funeral Home.
