Scott, Gary Stephen
Feb. 18, 1951 - Jun. 29, 2012
Gary Stephen Scott, 61, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Dayton, OH, died on Jun. 29, 2012.
Gary passed away peacefully after a long illness surrounded by his loving family. Gary spent his last few days as a patient at TideWell Hospice where he received excellent care. Survivors include former wife of 29 years and lifetime friend Sandra Jean Scott; children Tiffanie, Gabriel and Nicholas; grandchildren, Branden and Courtnie Driggers, Addison Marfia-Scott and Ava Scott-Callis; brother, Michael (Janine) Scott and a loving and playful uncle to many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. He is preceded in death by his sister Victoria Lynn Sobieraj and parents Alvin George and Jean Scott. Growing up in Dayton, OH, Gary enjoyed football in VanBuren Middle School and Kettering High School. In school Gary learned drafting and auto mechanics. Gary's favorite subjects were math, science and history. Gary was a fun-loving teenager and a friend to all. Gary's first jobs included the local car wash and employment at Kroger's grocery store. After leaving Kroger's Gary was in training to be a tool and die technician during the era of the Viet-Nam war. Gary enjoyed learning the trade but was concerned about the hazards of the trade. Gary left the trade to enter a school to learn air conditioning and heat repair and installation. After finishing school he accepted a job but then got laid off in the winter time which thus gave Gary an excellent reason to leave to bleak and cold OH winters and head south to FL in 1971 after Gary and Sandi married. Gary's favorite hobby was power boating in the surrounding water ways, most especially Indian Lake. Sunshine or rain Gary and Sandi could be found living it up in his two-seater, Glastron, green racing boat. So, as Gary's father cried as we pulled out of the driveway we left with whatever belongings we could fit in the car and boat. And as the saying goes, "the rest is history." Gary and Sandra enjoyed life in the sun and on the beach raising their three children and grandchildren. Life came with it's challenges but we were grateful for the many friends we have met during the past 41 years. Gary will be greatly missed by his family, extended family and friends. Please join us to celebrate Gary's life to be held at 2 pm on Sun. at the National Cremation and Burial Society in Sarasota, FL. Charitable Donations in honor of Gary may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL. Guestbook can be found At Legacy.com
