Luther, Devon Jackson
Jan. 2, 1938 - Jul. 6, 2012
She was born January 2, 1938 to Jesse D. and Isabel Byrd Jackson in Tuskegee, Alabama. She graduated from Tuskegee High School in 1956 and attended Murray State University in Kentucky.
Devon worked as a Civil Service specialist advancing to management analyst serving the Department of the Army in the Canal Zone, Panama. She received the first Commander's Award for Civil Service Excellence from the U.S. Southern Command.
In Auburn, Alabama, Devon worked with the Real Estate firm of Dunlop and Harwell before relocating to Sarasota, Florida in 1989 where she was employed as a legal assistant until her retirement in 2004.
Devon loved to dance, entertain, travel and could always be found with a good book in her hand. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Her patient and gentle strength always helped guide her family. She devoted much of her time to her family and a close circle of friends who will lovingly remember her for her quick wit and open door.
Devon is survived by her son William A. Luther, III and his wife, Cheryl, of Matthews, North Carolina, and her daughter, Leslie Williams and husband Mark of Sarasota, Florida. "Devo" also is survived by five grandchildren, James Pearson, Paige and Brooke Luther, Casey and Luke Williams; her sister Carol Grace and family of Stone Mountain, Georgia.
