Scherer, Robert Crist

Robert "Bob" Scherer, 81, of Torbert Lane Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania and Venice, Florida passed away on August 3, 2012 at Sunset Lake Health Center in Venice.
Bob the son of the late, Edward Underwood and Helen Crist Scherer, was born in Jersey Shore in 1931. He graduated Jersey Shore in 1949 a "49er" and Haverford College 1953. He also achieved his Master and Doctoral Degrees at Penn State University.
After Haverford College, he joined the Army Corps of Engineers1953-1959. While in the service, stationed in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, he met his beloved wife, Dolores Edna Johnson. They married September 26, 1955 for 57 years. After the Corp, he returned to the Jersey Shore area and started a teaching career. There he taught at Jersey Shore High School and was also an assistant football coach. After that he became a Biology Professor at Lock Haven State University where he retired after 15 years. He loved teaching and his students which gave him great joy and satisfaction in life.
Bob and Dee have 4 children; Craig and Sandra Scherer of Montgomery,TX, Kevin Scherer of Jersey Shore, PA, Kirsten and Pax Whipple of Ontario, Canada, and Katie and Derek Shockro of Lewes, DE, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, whom he loved spending time with. Other things he loved: Spending time in the Pine Creek Valley fishing, cross country skiing and walking/biking on the rail trail. He also enjoyed tennis, bridge and poker.
His positive outlook and love of life will greatly be missed by family and friends.
