Albert Joseph Anderson, 66, passed away on August 9, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Born in Hollis, New York, he followed his family to Florida, after serving an extended tour in Vietnam. Al had a love of boating and the water and spent his life in the boating industry as co-owner of A&A Marine Service on Anna Maria Island and later of Osprey Marine Service. He was a master marine technician with Galati's Marine and later Siesta Marine from which he retired in 2007.
Al helped design and act as advisor for the Marine Service Technology course at Sarasota County Technical Institute. He also was instrumental in building the Sarasota High School's floating classroom "The Carefree Learner".
Survivors include his wife Donna, son, Traye and granddaughter Carly. Four sister, Audrey Williams of Westport, CT, Lori (Preston) DeVilbiss and Linda (David) Hubbard of Sarasota, FL, Roberta Burish of Bradenton, Fl; two brothers, Robert (Donna) and Donald (Angie) of Bradenton, FL; ten nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews.
Services will be Friday, August 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Jennings Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Al's name to Tidewell Hospice or Sarasota County Technical Institutes Marine Service Program.
