Kempes, Polly

Polly Kempes passed away on August 7, 2012 in Venice, Florida, where she had been living for the past 23 years. She was born on September 4, 1925, the daughter of Edward and Barbara Pierce, and lived her childhood years in Arlington, VA.
Polly was an extraordinary musician, having trained at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY, as an organist. She served as a minister of music at Union Theological Seminary, where she graduated in 1951 with a masters of arts degree. Polly was married from 1949 to 1976 to the Rev. Wilbur O. Daniel, who was the minister at Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church, Pearl River, NY, where Polly served for over 20 years as its gifted organist and choir director. She married the Rev. Robert Kempes in 1977 and lived in Ridgewood, NJ until moving to Florida. She enjoyed playing the piano and was part of the Venice Presbyterian Church bell choir.
Polly is survived by her husband, Robert Kempes; her sons, Eddee Daniel (Lynn Kapitan), David Daniel (Martha), Steven Daniel, and her daughter Donna Totton (Jeff); her 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild; and by Robert Kempes's four children (Robert Jr., Richard, James and Susan), 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Venice Presbyterian Church, where she was a long-time member. A second memorial is to be planned for Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church in Pearl River, NY at a later date.
