A celebration of the life of John Omer (J. O.) Adkins. He was born March 11, 1919 and went to be with his Lord on September 09, 2012. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mildred "Millie" Adkins. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Shurling and Dianne (Henry) Ott, grandchildren, Kevin (Jennifer) Heath, Shawn (Catherine) Heath, Ashley (Oscar) Ott Dumas, and Peter (Dana) Ott, ten great grandchildren, and several brothers and sisters, brother-in-laws/sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. He was loved and cherished by all his family and was a dedicated father to his daughters. Papa/Pops left a lasting legacy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A special thanks to Uncle Boe, Aunt Mary and Aunt Joan, who helped us during this time. A special thanks also to Dad's wonderful neighbors and church family.
J.O. owned and operated a Gulf Service Station for over 30 years. His was a friendly face on the corner of Hyde Park and S. Tamiami Trail. He was always there to lend a helping hand and he was sure to have bubble gum and candy in hand for his "younger customers."
He was a WWII veteran and served in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a past president of AGRA, a 50 year member of UCT service club, and a long-time, very faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Arrangements by Manasota Memorial Park and Funeral Home, internment at Sarasota Memorial Park. The funeral will be at Fellowship Baptist Church, 3321 63rd Ave. E. (P.O. Box 20427) Bradenton, FL 34203 at 11:00, Thursday, September 12. The family will be at the church at 10:00 to receive friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church or Tidewell Hospice, 3355 26th St. W., Bradenton, FL, 34205-3607.
