Joseph A. Garcia, Jr. 76, passed away Thursday February 21 after a courageous multi-year battle with cancer. He was born November 16, 1936, in Queens, NY, only child of the late Joseph and Evelyn (DeSoiza) Garcia, who emigrated from Gibraltar to NY. Joe was raised in the South Bronx, and attended PS 52 where he was classmates with General Colin Powell. He began his career in the dental industry in Manhattan, before moving to CT in 1955. Joe raised his first 4 children in Wethersfield, CT where he owned and operated Master-Dent, a dental laboratory. In 1977 he relocated to Sarasota, opened a new business, DCI Dental Studio and raised his 2 youngest children. Joe was a devoted Yankee fan and a friend to many who greatly enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends. He is survived by his 6 children; Debra and Marc Montini of Derby, CT, Joseph and Christine Garcia of Dallas, TX, Andrew Garcia of Sarasota, Gregory and Dawn Garcia of Hebron, CT, Trevor Garcia of Sarasota and Tracy Garcia of Sarasota, and 8 grandchildren; Matthew, Marc and Micaela Montini, and Caitlin, Jeremiah, Andrew, Austin and Trent Garcia. Joe's family will receive friends on Saturday March 2 at National Cremation & Burial Society, 2990 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota. Calling hours are 12-2 PM, followed by a memorial service from 2-3 PM. Private burial at the convenience of the family will follow at Venice Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation, 4371 Veronica S.
