Frederick
Dec. 8, 1922 - Apr. 5, 2013
Frederick Hildenbrandt, Jr., 90, of Nokomis, FL formerly of Albany, NY died April 5, 2013.
Fred proudly served in the Navy from Dec. 1940 throughout World War II on the USS Edison Destroyer #439, in the North African and European invasions in the Mediterranean. When the war ended in Europe, the USS Edison was sent to the Pacific theater to the Phillipines and Mindinao. Shortly after the atom bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, the USS Edison, with Fred still on board, ended its mission in the Pacific by escorting the ship carrying the two American Generals, who signed the peace treaty ending the war with Japan into Nagasaki Harbor for the signing.
After the war, Fred returned to Albany, NY where he worked for Johnson Control Company for a number of years before starting his own successful business, Industrial Instrumentation, Inc. and supervising it until 1983, when he retired to Florida. He spent 25 retirement years as a willing volunteer in his community and was well known for his smile and sense of humor.
Fred is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jane; son, Frederick Hildenbrandt III of Albany, NY; daughter, Janice Piccone of Scotia, NY; two grandsons and one great granddaughter; brother Ralph Hildenbrandt of Albany, NY and sister Jean Randio of New Baltimore, NY. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 AM Friday April 12, 2013 at our Lady of Mount Carmel in Osprey. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel or TideWell Hospice.
