Dorothy Stetson Conlon was born January 10, 1927 in Shizuoka, Japan, the youngest daughter of Rev. Clifford and Margaret Stetson. She came to Sarasota in 1980 from Washington, DC. She graduated from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine, and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota. Dorothy joined the Foreign Service of the US Department of State after graduation from college. At her first overseas assignment she met her husband, Edward J. (Ned) Conlon, and they were married in Hong Kong in 1953. Subsequently they lived in Taiwan, Singapore, Pakistan, Indonesia, Hong Kong and India prior to his retirement in 1979. After his death in 1989, she taught English as a volunteer in Bangkok. She taught Yoga in Sarasota and is well known for the hundreds of travel slide presentations she gave at numerous retirement and nursing facilities in the area. Dorothy was predeceased by sons, Bruce Walter and Bradford Haynie, by sisters, Jean (Mrs. Weston A. Cate) of Montpelier, VT, and Ruth (Mrs. Fred R. Hyde) of Wichita, KS, by sister-in-law Regina Stirzaker of Westerville, OH. She is survived by several nephews and her daughter-in-law, Victoria Gray of Alexandria, VA. Memorial services will be held on August 25, 2013 at Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota, Fruitville Road, Sarasota, Florida at 2:00 p.m.

Dorothy loved to share her life with others, and brought back many interesting items she would sell at the Flea Market at the Unitarian Universalist Church. I am glad that I will have those remembrances to cherish.
