Robert D. White, Sr. of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Rockford, IL passed on November 21, 2013. Born in Rockford, IL he was the son of George and Florence White and brother to Richard E. and James R. White. He attended Rockford High School. In 1944 he left school and joined the Navy to serve his country in World War II. Following in his father's footsteps, he worked for Illinois Central Railroad after discharge from the Navy. He married Betty M. Greene in 1952 and also began a 25 year career with the Rockford Police Department and retired in 1977 as a Sergeant., moved to Florida in 1978 and was employed for 10 years with Schult Manufactured Homes. He was a member of Scottish Rites, Free Masons of Illinois and was a Shriner. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and Foxfire Golf Club. He and Betty resided at Sunnyside Village. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, two children, Susan LeBlanc (Bob) of Climax, Michigan, and son, Robert, Jr. (Cathy) of Sarasota. He is also survived by his four loving grandchildren, Andrea, Justin, Brandon, and Breena. A visitation will be at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home on Sunday, November 24, 4:00 - 6:00. A celebration service will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church on Monday, November 25, at 11:00. Memorials can be made to Concordia Lutheran Church. Graveside services and burial will be 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, December 4th at Sarasota National Cemetery.
