James Edward (Ed) Barrett passed away peacefully on Monday March 17, 2014. He was born on September 23, 1931 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He moved to Cleveland, Tennessee in 1963 and then to Sarasota in 1982. He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean War.
Survived by children Renee Sherk and husband Rick of Cleveland, TN., Denise Yeager and husband Randy of Sarasota, FL., Cherie Barrett of Sarasota, FL. and James Edward Barrett, Jr. (Jeb) and wife Karen of Chattanooga, TN. along with six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Ed graduated from Orlando High School and shortly after joined the US Air Force. When Ed returned from the service he married Marilyn Earley had four children and went on to become an entrepreneur and business man from selling sewing machines, owning automobile dealerships and several other successful businesses until his passing. Ed was also a Scout Leader. Ed was a Christian Mason and Shriner. Ed loved the Miami Dolphins. Ed loved his immediate family along with a "family of friends". If you knew Ed you had a story to tell or an experience to share. Ed will be laid to rest at Sarasota National Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held Thursday March, 20, 2014 at Jennings Funeral Home located at 5750 Swift Road, Sarasota, FL. 34231 from 12:30 till 1:30 pm with gravesite services following at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
