George Katramados of Venice, Florida formerly of Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey, passed away on March 24, 2014 surrounded by his family. George was born in Detroit, Michigan to Theodore and Stavroula Katramados and grew up in New Jersey. He entered the U.S. Navy in December 1944 where he served as a radio operator on the destroyer USS Perry until his honorable discharge on July 21, 1946. He joined Fort Monmouth Army Base as a civilian electronic engineer technician with the Department of Defense. Upon his retirement he relocated to Venice, Florida. George was predeceased by his parents, his brother James Katramados and his sister Mary Katramados Petine. He is survived by his brother Peter and wife Evangeline, his sister Freda Sigillito, his nephews Theodore Katramados, Theodore Petine, his nieces Pamela Murn, Barbara Solberg and grandnephews and nieces as well as his faithful friend Frances Hering. Friends may call for visitation at the Ewing Funeral Home, 140 East Venice Avenue, on Thursday March 27, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 28 at Holy Spirit Orthodox Church, 700 Shamrock Boulevard, Venice at 10:00 am. Interment services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Spirit Orthodox Church Expansion Fund, 700 Shamrock Boulevard, Venice, Fl. 34293 or Tidewell Hospice, Inc. 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, Florida 34238.
