Beth Bloechl lost her long battle with cancer last Monday. Beth was an educator in Sarasota County for many years, teaching at Sarasota High School and Pine View School. She taught science fiction as literature as well as Russian literature, modern American literature and poetry. At Pine View, she taught Advanced Placement English literature.
Beth served as director of Academic Olympics, a game show-style team quiz competition, for many years. She helped motivate her students to show their academic skills in a public forum. After she retired, Beth remained involved in Academic Olympics by writing questions and judging competitions. She was a devoted patron of the arts, rarely missing a performance at either the Asolo Theater or the Sarasota Opera. She was also involved in the local alumni chapter of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and served as President of the Friends of the Selby Public Library.
Beth was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Frank W. Bloechl. Life-long sailors, Beth and Frank cruised the waters of west coastal Florida for many years. They were long-time members of Bird Key Yacht Club, where they enjoyed many of the social functions. Beth and Frank loved to travel and spent their yearly vacations exploring numerous countries.
Beth is survived by her son Mark Bloechl, daughter Susan Gaillard, and two granddaughters Ashley and Kira Gaillard.
A remembrance service will be held on Saturday May 3, 2014 at 4:00 PM at Toale Brothers Funeral Homes, Colonial Chapel, 40 N. Orange Avenue, Sarasota.
