Judith Ann (Peters) Shaffer, 78, formerly of Nokomis, passed away in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 13, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's dementia. Born in Berwick, Pennsylvania on July 30, 1935, the daughter of Benjamin and Thelma Peters, she was educated in Berwick schools, and later attended Wilmington College in Ohio where she met her husband of 58 years. Prior to her illness, she loved gardening, participating in various women's groups and nurturing many long-standing friendships.
She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond, her two sons Jeffrey (JoAnne), Stephen (Christine) and daughter Jan Yansak (Paul). She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Jennifer Cathey (Glenn), Donald, Brittany Tuttle (Andy), Larissa Kladder (Jake) and Jacqueline; two great grandsons, James and Camden Cathey, and her brother Jack Peters of Naples, FL.
She was predeceased by her parents Benjamin and Thelma Peters of Seminole FL and Berwick, PA.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Farley's Funeral Home, 265 Nokomis Avenue, Venice, FL 34285.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan, 989 Spaulding SE, Ada, MI 49301.
