Lewis Pollock 98, of Sarasota, Florida died June 3, 2014. There will be a Celebration of Life held at Plymouth Harbor at 3:30 P.M. on Saturday, June 7, 2014.
Formerly a resident of Highland Park, Illinois, Lewis was a long time community activist serving on the Planning Commission both in Highland Park and on Longboat Key. He served as Mayor of Longboat Key from 1988-1989. Fully adopting his new home, Lewis volunteered for many years as a docent at Mote Marine.
Lewis worked in the area of advertising starting his own company in 1972 which he sold in 1980 when he relocated to Longboat Key.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Lewis attended Cleveland Heights High School and Western Reserve University. He was always very athletic and played semi pro baseball during his college years. He served as a Base Intelligence Officer in the Air Force during World War II and continued playing baseball for the base league.
He married Peggy Pollock on April 17, 1942. They have two children, Betsy Pollock of Los Angeles, California and Michael Pollock of Urbana, Illinois. He also had two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Henry and two great grandchildren, Gabriel and Tristan.
In lieu of flowers gifts may be made in the name of Lewis Pollock to Mote Marine Laboratory.
