John Francis Chieffo, age 82, of Venice, Florida, passed away on June 30, 2014. He was born on August 2, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was Vice President of Recigno Dental Lab in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, where he worked for 40 years. John retired in 1998 and moved to Venice from Hatboro, Pennsylvania. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Sacristan, altar server and member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 9924 in Venice. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary where he was a teacher in all areas of boating at the Willow Grove Navy Station in PA. He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Chieffo of Venice; two daughters, Margaret Newton of Venice, Nancy Patin of Atlanta, Georgia; a son, Scott Gross of Hillsborough, New Jersey; two brothers, William Chieffo of Mentor, Ohio, Ronald Chieffo of Tuckerton, New Jersey and a sister, Dianne Chieffo of Mays Landing, New Jersey; step brothers and sisters, Peter Heigl of New Britain, PA, Ewald Heigl of Somers Point, NJ, Rose Mitchel of Egg Harbor, NJ, Liane Giardina of Damascus, MD, and Nancy Friel of Cape May Court House, NJ. John also leaves behind six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A mass will be held at 1:30PM on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council #9924, 1301 Center Road, Venice, Florida 34292 or to Tidewell Hospice Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, Florida 34238.
