Daniel Green Obituary
Green, Daniel
Oct. 22, 1931 - Aug. 21, 2014
Daniel Green of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Springfield, Ohio, born Oct. 22, 1931 died peacefully at home on August 21, 2014 after several years of declining health.
Born Gary Daniel Green to Judah and Lacy Thompson of Welch, West Virginia, Dan lived a unique and fulfilled life, leaving an inspired legacy of accomplishment, generosity, gratitude and compassion. Prior to retiring to Sarasota in 1983, he was employed by the International Harvester and later business owner of Daniel Green's TV and Appliance Center of Springfield. Dan was active with Calvary Baptist Church in Springfield and later Bayshore Baptist Church of Bradenton.
Dan will be remembered by a large circle of family and friends for his capacity to endure blindness and the slow onset of Lewey Body Disease with a grace and acceptance that inspired everyone who knew him. He was a genuine self-effacing individual who demonstrated a steadfast faithfulness and willingness to sacrifice for the well-being of others. Dan carried a lifelong concern for those in need, a strong sense of justice and a dedication to living a deeply Christian life , as well as an uncanny ability to cut-up and laugh until he was wonderfully out of control. Dan's 'grandgirls' were the center of his retirement years and he never missed a school event, performance or holiday party as a devoted grandfather. He enjoyed long solitary neighborhood walks, bike riding, fishing, camping at Lake Erie, Bible study and travel on back country roads with a dog by his side. A lover of family, animals and nature sustained him throughout his life and yet, Dan was ever mindful of the passing nature of life's seasons and his faith in an eternal and heavenly world, which was the ground of his being and the source of his strength.
His mother and stepfather and two adoring sisters, all of West Virginia, preceded Dan in death.
Dan is survived by his devoted childhood sweetheart, wife and caregiver Loretta Louise Green of 64 years, daughters Barbara Paren (Brian) of Pittsboro, NC; Danielle Green and granddaughters Hadley and Annaporva Green of Sarasota and many treasured in-laws and a large network of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota or the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of .
An informal gathering to remember and celebrate Daniel's life will take place on Longboat Key, Florida on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 4 pm. Condolences may be offered at www.palmsrobartsfuneralhome.com.
