Edward A. Sand died on Feb. 13, 2009, in Sarasota.
Mr. Sand was formerly chairman and CEO of Parents Magazine Enterprises, where he guided the company's growth to include magazines, books and the FAO Schwartz stores. He retired in 1979.
After graduating from NYU before joining Parents, Mr. Sand co-founded the Literary Workshop magazine, which published the stories of H.L. Mencken, Erskine Caldwell and other young and prominent authors.
Upon the death of his beloved wife, Sarah, Mr. Sand moved from his home on Longboat Key to Sarasota.
Mr. Sand was deeply loved and respected by his friends and family for his warmth, intelligence and for the independence he displayed even in his later years.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Sand; granddaughter Jennifer Sand; and daughter-in-law Mary Sand.
