Bogen, James Ashley
Nov. 11, 1941 - Oct. 5, 2009

James Ashley "Jim" Bogen, 67, of Venice died Oct. 5, 2009.
A celebration of life will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Venice Yacht Club. Farley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Surviving family members include his wife, Nancy Christiansen Bogen of Venice; mother Lela Bogen of Venice; daughters Tracey Bogen Starrett of Sarasota and Dr. Chelli Bogen of Venice; stepdaughters Chrisanne Kenny of Cape Coral and Marissa Martin, who currently resides in Jerusalem; brother Andrew D. Bogen of Venice;
step-grandson Donald Kenny of Cape Coral; and all the animals Jim loved.
He was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Nov. 11, 1941, and came to Venice in 1982. His first taste of Venice came as a student at the Kentucky Military Institute, from which he graduated in 1960.
Jim was president of Bogen, Bogen and Bogen Heating and Air Conditioning in Columbus. He was also a member of the Jaycees, the United Way and a member of the Columbus Athletic Club.
In Venice, Jim wore many hats: he was owner of the Brass Porthole Pub, a real estate broker, and later he worked with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Department. He was member of Sertoma for more than 25 years and former Sun Fiesta Chair.
He served on the Venice City Council from 1989 to 1992, and was also on the Venice Yacht Club Board of Directors. Jim was a licensed sea captain and volunteered with the Sheriff's Auxiliary Marine Patrol for more than 14 years.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed his antique gun collection and animals of any kind. Jim also loved to travel and read, and generally loved life.
He loved his wife and family above all.
