Pastor David E. Johnson, 52, of Venice, formerly of Wisconsin and Minnesota, died Jan. 22, 2010.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, with services at 7 p.m., at Emmanuel Lutheran.
Survivors include his parents, Arnold and Irene of Altoona, Wis.; brothers Paul of Fall Creek, Wis., and Wayne of Eau Claire, Wis.;
his nephew Travis Johnson; and his great-niece Rian Johnson.
David graduated Magna Cum Laude from Augustana College in 1980 and with a Master of Divinity from the Luther Seminary in 1984. He was ordained a pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, in 1984. He served at Minneola Lutheran Church in Wanamingo, Minn., from 1984 to 1989 and at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker, Minn., from 1989 to 2003. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, c/o The David E. Johnson Haitian Fund, 790 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice, FL 34285.

To Pastor Dave's family,
My (now) adult children and I share your sadness with the great loss of our favorite Pastor. Pastor Dave was the cornerstone to my children's strong faith, his involvement with the youth at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker, MN. His care and concern for the youth was evident in everything he did for and with the kids. He was the Pastor who baptized my daughters, and helped me keep God present in every moment of their lives. We moved away before he left Hope, but our hearts and continued faith were touched and will always be touched because of what Pastor Dave taught us. His memory will be cherished. May God bless Pastor Dave and your family.

Pastor Dave performed and was involved in the most important moments of our lives...He buried our spouses (suddenly lost a month a part),he performed my baptism, counseled and then married us.He was not only a Pastor, he was our friend. Long after he left us in Minnesota, he stayed in our hearts, and he will always be a treasure to us in thought, word and deed. As he reminded us each week, "Welcome to God's House", he now joins Him. We know he will continue his work from above. Since your challenge we have read the Bible, cover to cover several times instead of here and there. Thank you, Pastor Johnson.
