Sue E. Lockley Altier passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 (All Saints Day) in Sarasota, FL. She was born December 31, 1936 in New Castle, PA., daughter of Elroy and Katherine Lockley, sister of Jane Katherine O'Leary and brother Robert E. Lockley. Sue married Lawrence "Larry" Altier on December 29, 1956, a marriage lasting 56 wonderful years. Sue is the beloved mother of Larry Jr. (Pam), Jeff (Sarah), Steve (Judy), Amy (Jim) DiSalvo and David (Beth). She was blessed with 13 grandchildren, a great grandchild, and she adored each of them. A resident of Sarasota since 1966, Sue was devoted to her family, community and friends. Sue lived a life of love, embracing everyone she encountered with a smile and a hug. A devout Catholic, Sue was a member of Incarnation Church, taught Sunday School for many years there, and was an active Church member. She also served as a volunteer at the Vatican during the year 2000 Jubilee Celebration and completed a pilgrimage to Bethlehem with her sister Jane during Pope Paul's last visit to the Mideast in 2000. Sue was a lifelong educator who studied at Penn State University, her bachelor's, master's degree from the University of South Florida. She was a popular and caring teacher who was respected and loved by her former students and colleagues during her tenure at Riverview High School teaching English and Spanish for 19 years, retiring in 1998. Sue traveled extensively throughout her teaching career making several trips to Europe, Middle East, and the Far East, bringing back cultural experiences that she used to enhance her teaching and exposing her students to wider array of knowledge. Sue was also a musical artist who once sung for the KDKA radio station in Pittsburgh. An accomplished pianist, Sue delighted all who knew her by playing and singing for hours with the amazing ability to play any song requested. Sue, "Mom", "Grandma", "Aunt Susie", "Mrs. Altier", will be missed but never forgotten for the joy, the music, the love she brought to all and will live eternally in the hearts of those whose lives she touched. A memorial service, celebrating Sue's life will be held on Friday, November 9 at 9:30 AM in the chapel at Incarnation Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to the TideWell Hospice House, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. All are welcome to attend.
