John Joseph Jones III, age 83 of North Venice, formerly of Newburgh and Spring Valley, New York, died peacefully on November 17, 2012 and joined his beloved wife Lois in God's heaven. John was born July 29, 1929, grew up in Spring Valley, New York and graduated from Spring Valley High School as the football team captain and star. John joined the US Army and served in Korea, earning a Purple Heart while leading his remaining troops to escape and survive the January 1, 1951 invasion. He went on to a long, successful and rewarding banking career working for Spring Valley Savings and Loan, Nanuet National Bank, First Bank of Highland and M & T Bank as a Senior Vice President. He epitomized the last of the local community bankers, with most of his clients following him his entire career and attributing their own success to John giving them their start. He also gave a lot of his time to organizations such as the Lions Club, Rotary and Kiwanis acting as Treasurer. While he realized his childhood dream of flying his Cherokee 180 in mid-life, his devotion was first and foremost always to his wife Lois and sons John and Jim. After his wife's passing, he was well-known and is fondly remembered for all of his generous efforts to help and assist neighbors with chores, repairs, food and gifts, and his companionship to those in need.
He is survived by his sons John IV and wife Brenda of Hong Kong, with grandson John V, and James and wife Jill with granddaughter Jaime, the apple of his eye. John's surviving brothers are Larry, Warren, Robert and Virgil of New York and Florida. John had two godchildren, Jean Marie Hoffend of Honeoye Falls, New York and Adrienne Serra of Stony Point, New York.
