Robert Charles Turner, 94, of Sarasota, FL, died on Nov. 26, 2012.
He has joined his wife of 53 years, Lillian Murray, who predeceased him in 1996. Born in Henry, Illinois, Robert was a WWII veteran, serving his country as a Paratrooper in the 513th and 11th Airborne. He received the Purple Heart and was in Africa, the Philippines, and Japan.
Robert was a successful farmer in Illinois after WWII, and was featured in Life Magazine for innovative hog farming techniques. He farmed in Waverly Hall, Georgia, for 11 years before moving his family to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he worked in credit and finance for B.F. Goodrich and Lovemans Department Store.
Retiring to Florida in 1989, Robert pursued his love of golf and continued his life long involvement in organizations including the Eagles, the Elks, the VFW, and the American Legion.
He and Lillian were blessed with 3 children--Guy Robert (Mary Anna) of Southlake, Texas, Lawrence Murray (Karen) of Austin, Texas, and Joy Mary of Sarasota, Florida. Five adoring grandchildren, their spouses, and six great grandchildren will always cherish his memory-- Bruce, Julie, Jenna, Becca, Bethany, Michelle, Scott, Dylan, Kaylie, Ashley, Cliff, Chad, Terri, Justin, and Christian. Robert's loving sister, Mary Tribbey, resides in Peoria, Illinois.
Robert leaves many truly wonderful friends who will remember him fondly.
With sadness we acknowledge his passing, but with love and respect we will remember the good, honorable life he lead. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 4 PM to 6 PM at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 North Orange Avenue, Sarasota.
The funeral service and interment will be private.
