Warren Ruppel, 91, passed away on November 18, 2012. He was laid to rest at the Sarasota National Cemetery on November 27, 2012.
Warren is preceded in death by his wife, Frances (Wilson) Ruppel, brother Gerald J. Ruppel, his sister Jan Nieman Willadson, and his parents, David and Norma (Steffen) Ruppel.
A native of Sheboygan, WI, he graduated from North High School in Sheboygan in 1939.
Warren served in the Army Air Corps from 1941-1945 and married Frances in 1944.
He earned degrees from the University of Illinois and taught in Urbana, IL from 1948-1954.
Warren found a career with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DODDS) from 1954-1980. As a teacher and administrator he traveled the world with his wife Frances, serving in places such as Germany, Japan, Hawaii, The Philippines and Washington D.C. They moved to Sarasota, FL in 1988.
Warren was a gentle spirit, a dedicated educator, and mentor to many young people. He greatly impacted the lives of his nieces and nephews who will remember "Uncle Warren" fondly. These include Wendy (Doug) Born of Sheboygan, Lynn (David) Klosterman of Mukwonago, Marie (Glenn) Seger of Sheboygan, and Eileen (Gary) Diener of Sheboygan. Also Patricia Wilson-LaVigne, Mark Wilson (Elizabeth), and Valerie (Wilson) Ealey (Guy) of Sarasota, Steve Wilson (Linda) of Mankato, MN, Warren Wilson (JoAnne) of VA, Sharon Hutchings (Bob) of Pleasantville, IA, and Virginia Tupper (Jeremy) of Seattle, WA.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The American Overseas Schools Historical Society at AOSHS Memorial Fund, PO Box 4312, Scottsdale, AZ 85261, in memory of Warren Ruppel.
