Charles Frederic Laundy, of Sarasota died January 19, 2013. Fred was born on September 25, 1922 in Lakewood, OH. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during WWII. He worked as a mechanical engineer in Lakewood, OH; La Grange, Rockford and Naperville, IL. He retired to Sarasota, FL and started a Commercial Service Master business for five years. He was active in the YMCA, Chamber of Commerce and Rotary. Fred served as Secretary of Rotary Club of Sarasota Bay for seven years. He was an elder at Bee Ridge Presbyterian Church and Church of the Palms where he was active in the Memorial Garden Board, Tutoring and Wonderful Wednesday dinners. He worked as Facilities Manager and Volunteered at Selby Botanical Gardens. Fred initiated a two-table men's bridge group that lasted over 20 years. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley Ann (Boulton), son David C. Laundy (Laure), daughters Diane L. Dahm (P. Frederick) and Joyce A. Spong (David); seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial will be held at the Church of the Palms on January 26, 2013 at 2 PM. Internment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church of the Palms food pantry.
