Appel, Lotte Anne
Dec. 12, 1916 - Aug. 13, 2013
Lotte Anne Appel (nee Vogt) was born in Hamburg, Germany, and is survived by her nephew Hans Peter Vogt and wife, Evelyn, Renatta Vogt Hoelter and husband Manfred, all of Hamburg, and many loving and admiring friends.
Lotte's early life was easy and pleasant, but when her home was completely destroyed by Allied bombing in WW2, she, her parents, and older brother were forced to be housed by her father's employer. For the duration of the war, they shared one room!
After the war Lotte was employed by a shipping import & export business & rose to important positions. She frequently traveled on business, especially to Italy, seeing Rome, Venice, Genoa, & Trieste. She also had an audience with the Pope & met with the Onassis family.
In her early 30's she immigrated to Chicago, Ill. to become the import manager of the largest steamship agency in the U.S. There she met her "future", Al Appel, a fellow employee. They were married on June 27, 1953.
After retirement in 1975 the couple & their two much loved Basset hounds moved to Nokomis, FL to the home they shared until Al's death in 1981.
Lotte remained in their home & died there about four months shy of her 97th birthday.
Her interaction with her friends & neighbors is legendary. Her bowling & bridge exploits & wholehearted enthusiasm in communication with others made her much admired, trusted, & loved.
That was our Lotte - A true FRIEND!
