Robert "Joe" Hinds was born in Toledo to Robert and Alice Hinds. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, he graduated from the University of Toledo with a business degree where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He was co-owner and president of Luma Electric and Building Supply Company with his three brothers. In 1986 he was inducted into The Scott High School Hall of Fame for Distinguished Community Service. He was a member and vestryman at Trinity Episcopal Church, Toledo. In 1993 he and his wife, Nancy, moved to Sarasota, Florida where he became a member of St. Boniface Episcopal Church. He was a charter member at Laurel Hills Tennis Club and Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Toledo and a member at Serendipity Tennis Club in Sarasota. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nancy, daughter Susan Thetford (Dan), son Thomas Hinds (Kathy) and daughter Barbara Cook, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and brothers Ron and John Hinds. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Hinds III and brother James Hinds. In lieu of flowers tributes may be made to American Parkinson Disease Assc., St. Boniface Episcopal Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, Toledo and Phi Kappa Psi Scholarship fund at University of Toledo. The family wishes to thank all the staff at The Springs at Lake Pointe Woods for the kind and compassionate care he received. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, December 21 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Church where a luncheon will follow the service. A memorial service will be held in Toledo at a later date.
