Maxine Booth Obituary

Booth, Maxine

Aug. 7, 1926 - May 29, 2014

On May 29, 2014, Maxine Booth passed away at 87 in Sarasota. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Booth, sister Eleanor Erickson and brother Donald Rice. Maxine was born to Oscar and Erma Rice. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education degree at Colorado State University in 1960, and went on to gain a Master of Art at State University Stony Brook New York and post-graduate work at Hofstra and Adephi universities. She taught dance in the style of Martha Graham and enjoyed the influence of the modern art movement and culture. Maxine brought the flavors and cultures of the world into the classroom to inspire her students. She designed and created her own clothing and was known for her original fashion sense. Beloved wife of Joseph, they spent 57 wonderful years traveling the world together. In retirement, Maxine was active in the Bromeliad Society, Selby Garden Associates and AAUW. She most enjoyed being a docent at the Ringling Museum of Art. A friend, Sergio Barillo describes Maxine as "a special human being that always had a great elegance with a superior "savoir faire" that made her recognizable at anytime and anywhere. It was always such a treat to sit with her and have a conversation listening to all her wonderful stories full of fun anecdotes. Forever kind and considerate, I will always remember her with big affection." Arrangements are by Jennings Funeral Home & Crematory.
