Carroll Piper Obituary

Piper, Carroll V 'Wally'
Jun. 17, 1931 - Oct. 21, 2014
Mr. Carroll V. 'Wally' Piper passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 21, 2014 in Sarasota, Florida at the age of 83. He is survived by his son, Vernon Piper (Andrea) and grand-daughter, Abigail Piper, of Atlanta, Georgia. Wally was born on June 17, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa to George and Pansy Piper. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. After his discharge from the U.S. Army, he worked in the film industry before going to work for Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus, where he worked in wardrobe and set construction. While there, he was instrumental in setting up Ringling's in-house prop shop, Hagenbeck-Wallace. In recent years, Wally could be found selling programs at the winter shows of The Circus Arts Conservatory Sarasota.
A committal service along with Military honors will take place November 6, 2014 at 10:30 am at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Florida 34241. Pastor Karl Oetting will officiate the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Wally's life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Wally's name to the Circus Arts Conservatory Laughter Unlimited program, with which he worked on several occasions. Donations can be made at CircusArts.org.

Wally was a kind soul whom I remember as a good friend when I was on Ringling. Rest in Peace.

November 5, 2014

We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy to Wally's family at this time. We considered Wally our friend, and were very happy to have known him for many decades. We used to be neighbors on the old RB&B&B Circus train, and have kept in touch with him ever since. We will miss Wally very much. Sincerely, Mike and Rebecca Meinhart with Love
