Charles Simpson Obituary

Charles R. Simpson was born in Danville, IL in 1921 and moved to Champaign in 1941.
He received both his BA degree and his JD degree from the University of Illinois, and his LLM degree from Harvard.
He represented the Champaign District in the General Assembly from 1947 through 1950.
He married Ruth V. Thompson in 1948. She passed away in 2012.
In 1951 he moved to the Washington D.C. area where he was with the Internal Revenue Service. He became the Director of the Legislation and Regulations Division of the Chief Counsel's Office in 1964. He received the Justice Tom C. Clark Award as the outstanding Government attorney for 1964.
In 1965 he was appointed a Judge of the United States Tax Court, and he served there until his retirement in 1988. Upon his retirement, Judge Simpson was awarded the J. Edgar Murdock Award for outstanding service to the Court. He was a member of the American Bar Association, and it's Section on Taxation, the American Law Institute, and the American Judicature Society.
He moved to Sarasota, FL in October 1987.
There will be no funeral or memorial service. Any gifts in his memory may be made to TideWell Hospice of Sarasota.

I remember Judge Simpson very fondly. My father, John Clay, introduced us and I enjoyed attending the lively luncheon group that the Judge helped to start on several occasions.
