Catherine Sue Dettling

DETTLING, CATHERINE SUE; age 50; passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at her home in Black River. She was born July 13, 1962 in Ann Arbor, MI to Charles and Janet (MacDougall) Dettling. Known to friends as Cathy, she was raised in Manchester, Michigan, and moved to Alcona County in 1987. Cathy was a member of the Alcona Township Fire Department for 25 years where she was a Firefighter I.C., teaching many special skills, and one of the founders of the Alcona Township Fire Department Dive Team. She was named Firefighter of the Year in 2012. She was an EMT Specialist with the Alcona County Ambulance for 18 years. Cathy was a hot air balloon student pilot, and especially enjoyed camping and kayaking. Catherine is survived by her companion, Pamela (P.J.) Wilson of Black River; a son, Keith Thompson of Harrisville; 6 brothers and sisters, Curt (Brenda) Dettling of Milan, Joe (Mary Ann) Dettling of Manchester, Debra (Jim) Barth of Harrisville, Cheryl (David) Bauer of Tecumseh, Bruce (Michelle) Dettling of Manchester, and Jill (Greg) Bondy of Manchester; 16 nieces and nephews; 10 great nieces and nephews. Her aunt, Susan (Ed) Gardner of Interlochen; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Andy Thompson, May 28, 2007. Visitation for Cathy will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the funeral at 11 a.m. at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. Rev. Chrissy Bright will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Joy Cemetery, Haynes Township, MI. Gifts of remembrance may be given to the Alcona Township Fire Department Dive Team, Hospice of Michigan, or .
