Donald Hugh Treadwell

TREADWELL, DONALD HUGH; age 95; of Pelican Bay; passed away on March 30, 2013 at Premier Place in The Glenview at Pelican Bay, Naples, Florida. He was born March 27, 1918 in Detroit, Michigan to Evelyn and C.W. Treadwell. At age 13, he became an Eagle Scout. After graduating high school he went onto University of Michigan where he was president of the student union his senior year. He matriculated from law school at the University of Michigan before heading to the Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut to begin his service during W.W.II. The war years were spent on board an LST serving in the Pacific. He returned in 1946 to marry Marjorie Helen Lee, his wife of 66 years. Together they settled on Grosse Ile in Michigan to raise their 6 children; where they resided for 56 years prior to moving to Naples, Florida. Don served as president of various organizations ranging from school board to Grosse Ile Golf and Country. His long and active career in real-estate and appraisal work led to his presidency of the Michigan Realtors Association and ultimately to president of the National Association of Realtors. He also played a leadership role in the International Federation of Real Estate Appraisers (FIABSI). He was an active teacher and mentor to many with a special interest in real estate ethics. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his children, Donald (Judith), David (Loren), Marcie (Greg Goyert), Jamie, Doug (Monica); and his daughter-in-law Candice Treadwell Messer as well as by 10 grandchildren; 3 grandchildren-in-law, and 1 great grandson. He is also survived by his older sister, Marjorie Crawford of Pepper Pike, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Greenlee; his brother, Robert Treadwell; and his son, William. A Service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Saint James Episcopal Church at 25150 East River Road, Grosse Ile, MI 48138.
