LeBLANC, MICHELLE M.; age 58; of Gainesville; died April 13, 2013; at the ET York Care Center after a battle with colon cancer. Michelle received her DVM degree from Michigan State University
in 1977 and became board certified in Theriogenology in 1982. "She has received international recognition for her professional activities relating to veterinary clinical reproduction, research and service to the horse industry." Michelle served on the faculty of the University of Florida
, College of Veterinary Medicine for 22 years prior to practicing at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY, where the LeBlanc Reproduction Center has been named in her honor. Michelle received numerous awards, including the World Equine Veterinary Association Lifetime Achievement Award and the Carl J. Norden Distinguished Teacher Award; she was named 2000 Theriogenologist of the Year by the American College of Theriogenologists; and in 2007, Michigan State University awarded her the Distinguished Veterinary Alumnus Award/Practitioner.Michelle was an avid horsewoman and most recently rode and competed in dressage. She loved to travel and enjoyed gardening, running and cycling. Michelle was married to the late Dr. Kevin John Anderson, a longtime faculty member of the University of Florida. She is survived by her parents, Douglas and Lillian LeBlanc; sisters, Denine LeBlanc, Lizette (John) Bryan, and Josette LeBlanc (James Wise); brother, Paul LeBlanc; sons, Brett and Jon (Michelle) Anderson; and six nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Michelle's Life will be held at the UF IFAS Straughn Center, 2142 Shealy Drive, Gainesville FL, at 7 p.m. on May, 4, 2013. A Memorial Mass officiated by Rev. James Scheick is scheduled on Grosse Ile, Michigan on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Ann on the corner of Church and East River Roads. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Michelle LeBlanc Memorial Scholarship (website), the Theriogenology Foundation, or Haven Hospice.
