William Ashcroft

ASHCROFT, WILLIAM; age 94; of Huron Township, Michigan; died October 22, 2013. Beloved husband of 66 years to Olive (Skipworth) Ashcroft; loving father of Ronald (Cheryl) of Huron Township, MI, Richard, of Wyandotte, MI, Robert of Denver, Colorado; proud and doting grandfather of Lauren and Nicholas Ashcroft; son of Richard Sephton and Ellen (Harrison) Ashcroft; dear brother of Margaret (Leslie) Draper, John (Gladys) Ashcroft, Alice (Eric) Linton, and Ellen Ashcroft; uncle of nine nieces and nephews. He was raised on the family farm in Rainford, England. During World War II, he served as a pilot in the British Royal Air Force. While training at Grosse Ile Naval Air Station, Michigan, he met his future wife. After the war, he and his wife settled in Wyandotte, Michigan. Here in 1952, he became owner of the family business Downriver Delivery, which continues to be operated by his family. He and his wife, Olive traveled the world with the Nomads travel club. His clever sense of humor and many stories of his adventures will be deeply missed. Visitation and Services were held on October 26, 2013 at Thon Funeral Home, Wyandotte, MI, with Burial following at Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, a suggestion for memorial gifts is the Wayne County Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, 3055 Michigan Ave. Westland, MI 48186.
