Grace Baker Obituary
BAKER, GRACE; age 92; of Wyandotte; February 14, 2014. Grace was born in Princeton, Kentucky. Her mother died when she was five and the seven siblings were divided up among relatives. She was sent to live on her grandfather's farm in Kentucky until age 12. She then came to Michigan to live with her sister so she would be able to go to high school. She met Fred at fifteen, married him at eighteen and had four children by twenty-six. Her volunteer activities include: President of the City of Wyandotte PTA Council, City of Wyandotte Planning Commission member, Citywide chairperson for the March of Dimes, Sunday School teacher at St. Stephens for 20 years, Vestry member and Senior Warden at St. Stephens, Swedish Exchange Student Sponsor, Camp Fire Girl troop leader and PEO Member. She graduated from Wayne State University with a Master's Degree and became the librarian at Roosevelt High School. She taught twenty-two years and only retired when Fred became ill. He was the Fire Chief of Wyandotte when he retired and past president of the Wyandotte Goodfellows. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Rohde, Carol (Richard) Lutgens and Susan (Robert) Bellas and daughter-in-law Cathleen Baker. She has 11 loving grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, son Paul Baker and six siblings. Visitation Friday 3 to 7 p.m. at R. J. Nixon Funeral Home, 2544 Biddle Wyandotte, MI 48192. Funeral Saturday 11 a.m. at St. Stephen Episcopal Church, 2803 1st St., Wyandotte. Instate 10:30 a.m. Interment Michigan Memorial Park. Memorial donations suggested to the , Wyandotte Goodfellows or St. Stephen's Episcopal.
