Nancy Lou Bowers Obituary
BOWERS, NANCY LOU; 77; a long-time resident of Dearborn, MI; passed peacefully, October 30, 2012, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, FL after suffering a massive stroke. She had just moved to the south recently to be near her only son. Nancy had just celebrated her 77th birthday September 30, 2012. Nancy was born in Mansfield, OH. In 1955, she married Bartley Dayton Bowers in Gulfport, MS while he was serving his country in the United States Navy. They later made their home and raised their three children in Dearborn, MI. Nancy was a long time employee of E.J. Corvettes department store, as the switchboard operator. This is where she earned the nickname, "Lou Belle". Additionally, Nancy assisted her husband in operating their business, Base Construction of Michigan for many years. Nancy lovingly cared for her husband in their home during his battle with a long-term illness until his death in 1989. Nancy is also preceded in death by two of her three children, Katherine Denise Bowers on August 25, 2006 and Victoria Bowers Kowalis (wife of Boone) on May 9, 2012. Nancy is survived by her only son, Bartley Stephen Bowers and his wife, Tabitha of Orange Beach, AL. Nancy was a loving grandma to Matthew Kowalis and Lindsay Katherine Kowalis, both of Livonia, MI. Nancy "Lou Belle" had four "guardian angels" in Michigan, Toni Ferrantino Kowalski, Diane Diebel, Nancy Ferrantino and Tricia Edwards. Nancy had three lifelong friends who lovingly supported and stood by her during the death of her daughters, Barbara Voran, Cathy Hanlin and Joyce Showler. On Friday evenings, Nancy and Bart socialized with several couples and formed a social club named "The Pelham and Otter Drive" (P.O.W.) Club to celebrate life together. This group did everything from local bowling and golf outings to traveling to the Bahamas multiple times to visit Grandpa "Black Bart" Bowers, who was a permanent resident of Nassau/Paradise Island, and worked as a pit boss in a casino. "Lou Belle" had quite a spunky spirit and funny sense of humor. Her friends and family loved spending time with her. Bart and Nancy were long time members of Christ Episcopal Church in Dearborn, MI. At her request, the interment of her ashes will be there, along with her late husband, Bart and her daughter, Kathy in the Memorial Rose Garden. Expressions of condolences can be sent to Bartley Bowers, P.O. Box 1243, Orange Beach, AL 36561.
