Joseph Mierzejewski Obituary
MIERZEJEWSKI, JOSEPH; April 29, 2013; age 88; of Lincoln Park. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Mierzejewski; father of Joseph (Mary Ellen), Eugene (Shirley), Susan (Luis) Flores, Mark (Peggy) and the late Jan. Born to John and Alicia Mierzejewski in Wyandotte in 1925, he had four brothers and two sisters. Joe served in the Army in Europe and the Philippines during World War II and joined the Detroit Police Department, retiring in 1975. He was long active in local sports, serving as a baseball and hockey coach. He also spent more than 30 years as a Michigan High School Athletic Association official, working as a baseball and girls softball umpire and football referee. Joe also was active in the police union movement, spending several years on the Detroit Police Officers Association Executive Board. He will be greatly missed by his children, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and sister, Ann Thiede. He called himself "just another Joe," but he was a man who made a difference in the lives of those he touched. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013 at R.J. Nixon Funeral Home, 2544 Ave., Wyandotte, and a Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, 266 Antoine St., Wyandotte. Online guest book
