Jack Haney Obituary
Jack Haney (Whiskey Jack), 90 years of age, of Venice, Florida, formerly of Hermann, Misosuri, passed away suddenly on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Venice Regional Bayfront Hospital in Venice, Florida.
Jack was born on Oct. 23, 1927, in Effingham, Illinois, to the late Elijah Clarence and Alice (Smith) Haney. He was fifth of eight children, all whom preceded him in death.
Jack married the late Ruth Marie Hein on June 9, 1957. They had one daughter.
Jack joined the Navy in 1944 at the age of 17. He said he never had it so good -- 3 hot meals and a cot to himself. He served for 21 years and in three wars, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.
He also served in one of the earliest nuclear special weapons units known as the "Keepers of the Dragon" and later as a Navy recruiter.
Jack had many interests and friends. He was one of the original "pickers" and was always on the lookout for an interesting antique, wood carving, whiskey still, or fruit jar. He had his whiskey still collection (and possibly a little moonshine somewhere), home-made wine, many beautiful wood carvings and "clean" jokes that he loved to share.
He found out that he loved to perform and became very active in the Show Boat Theatre. And, and lest we forget, he loved discussing his politics. But, most importantly, he had a heart of gold. He would go out of his way for friends and strangers alike.
Jack is survived by his loving daughter, Susan Aristizabal and husband George; 3 grandchildren, Lauren Aristizabal, Hayden Aristizabal, and Caroline Aristizabal; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home in Hermann, Missouri, on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, from 9-11 a.m.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ed Fasnacht officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at Loutre Island Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Village on the Isle in Venice, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family is recommending memorials to the Loutre Island Cemetery, Collier County (Florida) Honor Flight, or Service International, in care of Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
