James E. Goodin

JAMES E. GOODIN James (Jim) Goodin died March 11, 2013 of natural causes. Born in Corbin, KY to David & Versa Goodin on May 4, 1930, he met his wife, Ginny, who was his music instructor at Sue Bennett College in London, KY in 1948. They married in Victorville in 1952. Ginny died in 2007. The Goodins taught in the Victorville School Districts for more than 30 years. Jim's military service consisted of KY National Guard (1947-48) and US Air Force where he was a Medical Lab Tech (1951-54). He also taught History aboard US warships from 1987-90 in Southeast Asia. Jim held degrees from U of M in Ann Arbor, MI as well as a Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. During his teaching career at Victor Valley Junior High School, he taught English, Social Studies and Drama, directing many plays. He served as President of the Teacher's Association and Assistant Public Relations Director. Community service included terms on the boards of the Victor Valley Counseling Service, High Desert Symphony Association, the H.O.W. House and the Desert Theatre Arts/Music Guild where he served as an actor and director. The Sons of the American Revolution and the California Parent-Teachers Association recognized him for his community service. In their younger years, the Goodins enjoyed mountain climbing, sailing, tennis, world travel, cooking and home entertaining along with arts and crafts. During his slower years, Jim remained as a member of the CA Retired Teachers Association, the American Legion, and the Men's Bible Study Group of the Church of the Valley where he was a deacon. The Inurnment for Jim Goodin will be at 11:00 A.M. on April 15, 2013 at the Victor Valley Memorial Park. The Memorial Service will be at 3:00 P.M. at the Church of the Valley with Rev. Becky Sage officiating.
