Doub Skinner

XENIA — Douglas L. Skinner, age 52, of Xenia, died peacefully with his family at his side Thursday, November 27, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Middletown, Ohio the son of Lawrence and Beatrice (Mote) Skinner.

Doug graduated from the University of Dayton in 1984 and continued to be an avid UD Flyer fan throughout his life. Upon his graduation, he became a dedicated journalist, working for both Brown Publishing and Civitas Media in various capacities, including as a reporter for the Xenia Daily Gazette. He was a sports fan and avid reader. He was a member of the Dayton Ave. Baptist Church in Xenia. Doug had a gentle and kind demeanor, and although he was shy, he had quite a sense of humor and quick wit once you got to know him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Skinner.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Linda S. (Bastin) Ballard Skinner, whom he married July 14, 2007; his father, Lawrence Skinner of Franklin; step-sons: Jason (Wesley) Ballard of Wilmington; Jacob (Kathlene) Ballard and Joshua Ballard, all of Xenia; sister: Sandra (Herbert) Miller of Springboro; granddaughters: Nevaeh, Jaelyn and Kyrstianna Ballard; and a nephew: Zachary Miller; as well as numerous other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, December 1, 2014 at McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc., 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia with Pastor Jon Young officiating. Interment to follow in Wood Hill Cemetery, Franklin. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-5 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the .
