VANDALIA — Janis M. "Tekey" Kirchner, 88, of Vandalia and formerly of Tiffin, passed away Saturday evening in the care of hospice, November 12, 2016 in Vandalia.

She was born on October 23, 1928 in Carey, to Selmon and Ruth (O'Connor) Virden. She married Donald R. Kirchner on February 5, 1949.

Survivors include two sons, Ric (Denise) Kirchner of Dayton; Ron (Denise) Kirchner of Tiffin; a daughter, Janeen (Tony) Esterson of Toledo; a sister, Maxine Green of Celina; nine grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Janis was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1972; a daughter, Donna Kirchner; her twin sister, Janet "Mickey" Hufford; sister, Selma Hilliard; and her brother, Judson Virden.

Janis was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church until leaving Tiffin in 2000, to live in Toledo for 2 Years, close to Janeen and her family. In 2002, she then moved to Sacramento, California to spend time with Ron and his family. After a return to Toledo in 2004, she ultimately settled in Huber Heights (Dayton) close to her son Ric and his family in 2005. Finally, in 2007, Hearth and Home at Vandalia became her final home. She resided in the memory care unit of that assisted living facility. Janis graduated from McCutchenville High School in 1947. She worked at General Electric in her early years after high school, and then later at Sears in the office, inside sales and ultimately in outside sales for 15 years until its closing. She concluded her career at Wal-Mart as a sales clerk. It was then that she chose to sell her home of 45 years on Route 100 south of Tiffin that held so many memories.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 19 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
