ST. MARY'S — John H. Weng, III, 66, of St. Marys, OH died 4:10 a.m. Sunday December 8, 2013 in the emergency department of JTDM Hospital. He was born July 27, 1927 in Dayton, OH to John George and Mattie L. (Bridges) Weng, Jr. On December 29, 1967 in Dayton, OH he married Judy J. Beck, who survives. Also survived by: daughter Shari (Arthur) Naugle of Ashtabula, OH; son Chris (Sandy) Weng of St. Marys, OH; 3 grandchildren: Carrie (Marcus Neal) Lauth, Paul Lauth II, Danielle Naugle; mother Mattie Weng of Celina, OH. Preceded in death by: son John Russell Weng IV, father John George Weng, Jr., brother Ted Russell Weng. He was a 1967 graduate of Wayne High School in Dayton, OH. A veteran of the United States Army, he served as a sergeant in during the Viet Nam War. Specifically, John was in Company "C" 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry (4th Infantry Division), 3rd Platoon. While serving his country, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge.Fascinated with flight, his career encompassed more than 37 years as a Senior Captain in the Crown Equipment Corp. Flight Division. John held the record for the most hours logged by any pilot in a Rockwell Sabreliner business jet. He was a member of American Legion Post # 1 in Paris, France and the Ohio Patriot Guard. John treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren. His pastimes included auto and motorcycle racing. Participating in Patriot Guard missions to honor other veterans was truly an important part of his life. Services for Mr. Weng are scheduled to begin 1 p.m. Saturday December 14, 2013 at Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys, with Pastor Jack Burns, officiating. Burial, with full graveside military honors, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys. Visitation 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Members of the Ohio Patriot Guard will pay tribute during times of visitation and funeral services. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Ohio Patriot Guard.
