CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Lena Ray Wasson, 76, a Lee County resident for the past 16 years, formerly of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015 in Cape Coral. She was born on April 24, 1938 in Sharpsburg, Kentucky to Menefee and Florence Spencer, now deceased. Lena worked as a food broker for over 20 years and retired to move to Florida. She was a terrific cook (famous for her fried chicken), an excellent seamstress, an avid basket collector and loved to shop. She loved her family and family get togethers. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Sherrill W. Wasson, who was her hero, four loving children, Sharon Chandler (Richard) of Alabama, Jeanne Sharp (Larry), Deanna Doolin, and Van "Cliff" Wasson (Kathy) all from Cape Coral; three sisters, Bonnie Hughes, Shirley King, and Peggy Buckler (Wayne) all from Kentucky; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as all of Sherrill's brothers and sisters, who were like her own, and their families. Lena was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Katherine. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, April 24, 2015 at The Hope Hospice Chapel, 2430 Diplomat Parkway East, Cape Coral, FL 33909 with Pastor Brent Lauder officiating. Memorial contributions in memory of Lena Ray Wasson are suggested to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
