Peggy D. Armstrong

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Armstrong, 84, of Charlotte, died Feb. 27, 2006, at Pinecrest Gracious Retirement Living in Hickory. Mrs. Armstrong was born in Charlotte on Nov. 28, 1921, one of three children to the late George Benton Dean and Lila Mae Allen Dean. The Dean family were members of Chalmers Memorial Presbyterian Church. She had a passion for music and singing and met her husband, John Robert Armstrong, on the WBT radio station with "The Arthur Smith Show," where the two of them were singing. In addition, the two of them were active members of First Presbyterian Church of Sanford and were soloists in the church choir. She was a current member of First Presbyterian Church of Hickory and had worked as a broker for Shook and Tarlton Realtors for 20 years. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Peggy D. Armstrong will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2006, at the graveside in Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Deborah McEachran, associate minister of First Presbyterian Church of Hickory, officiating. The family will greet friends tonight, Wednesday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Pinecrest Gracious Retirement Living, 915 Twenty-ninth Ave., NE, Hickory, N.C. Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her son, Robert B. Armstrong and his wife, Alyce M. Armstrong of Sanford; and two grandchildren, R. Benton Armstrong of San Francisco, Calif., and Jennifer Armstrong Hicks and her husband, Andrew, of Apex. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Armstrong was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Armstrong; and two brothers, Jack Dean and George Benton Dean Jr. Memorials may be made in remembrance of Mrs. Peggy D. Armstrong to First Presbyterian Church of Hickory, 237 Second St., NW, Hickory, N.C. 28601; the American Lung Association, 5315 Greenbrook Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28205; or the charity of the donor's choice.
