Ruby Winkler HICKORY Ruby Byrd Winkler, 80, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Grace Hospital after a period of declining health. Ruby was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Virginia, to the late Jack and Sarah Dugger Byrd. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy Gene Winkler; a daughter, Christine Carol Byrd; brothers, Ellis Byrd and Newton Byrd; and sisters, May Davis, Bernice Walters and Velma Cline. She was a member of Winkler's Grove Baptist Church, Women's Class, retired from Adam Millis Hosiery and a foster grandparent at Longview School. Survivors include her daughters, Jeanie Berry and husband, Kenny, of Hickory, Vickie Brown and husband, Joe, of Hickory and Tammy James and husband, Dale, of Hickory; grandsons, Joey Brown and wife, Nicole, Jeff Brown and wife, Lawanda, Jason Berry, Ricky Brank and wife, Helen, Danny Powell Jr. and Darren James; granddaughters, Marcy Berry, Michelle Byrd and Monica James, all of Hickory; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Gladys Wiggins, of Ohio; brothers, Jack Byrd, of Ohio and Lloyd Byrd, of Hickory. Services will be held at Winkler's Grove Baptist Church today (Saturday, March 2), at 2 p.m., with the Revs. Dale Faulken-bury and Paul Deal officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
