Lauren Coffey HICKORY Lauren Ashley Coffey, 20, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011. Born May 8, 1991, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of Janet Spencer Coffey and Mark D. Coffey of Hickory. A current student at Lenoir Rhyne University, Lauren was a 2009 graduate of Hickory High School where she was a nationally ranked tennis player and a member of the National Honor Society. She had also received her Gold Award in the Girl Scouts and was a member of Palm Tree United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Corien Coffey. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Hunter Coffey of Hickory; paternal grandfather, Jerry B. Coffey of Hickory; maternal grandparents, Dale and Martha Spencer of Vale; uncles, Kenneth Coffey and wife, Linda, of Hickory, Barry Coffey and wife, Sue, of Richmond, Va., Chris Spencer and wife, Kim, of Vale and Paul Spencer and wife, Susan, of Vale; cousins, Erin McConnell, Justin Coffey, Ian Coffey, Leslie Hammond, Michelle Settlemyre and Johnathan Spencer. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at Palm Tree United Methodist Church in Vale with the Rev. Stephen Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening, Dec. 15, 2011, from 5 until 8 p.m., at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory.
