Hal Houston Obituary

Hal Houston MOORESVILLE Hal Stephens Houston, 78, of Mooresville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011. Born on March 14, 1932, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Clyde Oren Houston and Winnie Lee Sigmon Houston. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Houston was a local businessman and avid outdoorsman. He was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod in Hickory. Mr. Houston is survived by his wife, Betty Turland Houston; daughters, Sherry Clifton and her husband, Chris, and Teresa Farnhardt; son, Mark Houston; grandchildren, Carina Clifton and Taylor Earnhardt; sisters, Clara Petrovich, Nancy Hefner, Ann Decker and Kay Norris; and brothers, Tommy Houston, Ken Houston and Ronald "Slick" Houston. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, with the Rev. David Ziehr and Rev. Paul D. Birner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, 2304 Springs Road, Hickory, NC 28601; or to the Goron Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Condolences may be sent to the family of Mr. Houston at www.drum funeralhome.com. The family of Mr. Hal Houston have entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 940 29th Ave. NE, Hickory, NC.

betty, i'm joel--the guy across the canal from you guys at holden--i spoke to hal in nov.--he sounded tired--i had no idea he was this close to the end--remember back in the summer--hal and i put a battery in his boat and we were talking about renting the house out more--i'm so sorry--i just cant beleive it--i'm gonna miss my buddy--if you need anything at holden--you call me--i've been tryint to get intouch with you--i may see you this weekend--

Betty and family,
May God wrap your grieving hearts with his comfort and peace as you travel down the long and difficult road ahead. It is always so hard to say goodbye to those we love so dearly, but just remember Hal is no longer suffering or in pain. He has really caught "the big one" this time.
